2013 Leavers' 5 Year Reunion - 16th June, 2018

Posted by System Administrator on 16 Jun 2018

We've booked the Drawing Room in the trendy Islington Townhouse 'the Dead Doll's House' and the first drink is on us, all you need to do is sign up. If you have any questions or would like us to invite any of your old teachers in particular, get in touch with us at ob@oldbrightonians.com

Written for the 2013 Autumn edition of the Brightonian, when you, our 2013 Leavers were just about to head off to your first lectures at University, Cameron reflected on his time at Brighton College:

"My time at Brighton College has also helped to define who I am as a person. Trying to fish my shoe out of a swamp of mud that had sucked it off my foot and swalloed it whole during a cross-country race at Lancing College, just as the snow had started to fall heavily, is definitely the sort of character-building endeavour that school masters of old would thoroughly approve of. While I have experienced many such moments, Brighton College also provides another kind of challenge that does not involve hyperthermia, but instead requires stage lights and lycra. At any other school, I would never have had the self-assurance to take part in a ballroom dancing competition, but at Brighton taking part in 'Strictly Come Dancing' is definitely not something to be embarrassed about. Nerves before the live show are obviously still unavoidable, but the loud encouragement and genuine praise from friends in the audience quickly help these to subside. I truly believe that the amazing opportunities offered to every single pupil, and the general expectation for these opportunities to be seized upon, is one of the key reasons for the success of the students in their later lives. So, it was very strange to leave, and it will be even stranger establishing a life for myself in a world without chapel or prpe. I can be confident, however, in the fact that I am as prepared as humanly possible to face the big, scary world outside the boundaries of Kemptown. I am sad to have left, but also excited about the future, and just a little bit jealous of those whose journeys at Brighton College are just starting"

I'm sure Cameron's words have all brought back memories of your time from BC and hopefully some nostalgia. But, as many of you already know, you are part of the fantastic, dynamic and supportive OB network, the community of Old Brightonians for life. And this June, is your 5 year reunion. Join us at the Dead Doll's House in Islington on Saturday 16th June to see your old classmates and teachers, we're sure you've got lots to tell us.

We've set up a group on Brighton College Connect, where we will be sharing photographs and news regarding the event, so make sure you join and keep up to date!
