  • 96.6% grades A*B
  • 78.4% graded A*A (110 out of 200 got all A*s and As)
  • 110 pupils scored A*s and As in all their subjects
  • 28 pupils got AT LEAST A*A*A* (14 got four A*s)

Despite national uncertainty about how pupils across the country will fare this results day following a raft of changes in the sixth form curriculum, Brighton College pupils are celebrating after collectively bagging 505 A*s and As.

Brighton College has topped the league tables in Sussex for the last ten years and this year is another stellar year of results for the Eastern Road school, the second best in the college’s history just behind last year when the independent school was placed top in England in The Sunday Times’ A-Level table.

Remarkably, 110 sixth formers secured A* and A grades in every single subject.

Head Master Richard Cairns expressed his delight this morning but added that what made him happiest was the knowledge that every pupil, no matter what their ability, had achieved to their potential:
“As ever, this reflects brilliantly on the commitment and hard work of our pupils, the inspirational teaching of our Common Room and the huge efforts made by all members of staff in helping to support those individuals who need that little bit extra help to achieve what we knew they were capable of. We judge our success not just by how we help the most able, but by how we lift up and enthuse those for whom academic work is more demanding. What gives me greater pleasure than all the A* grades is to see a pupil with three B grades celebrating an achievement he or she never thought possible. That is really what a Brighton College education is all about.”
