During the series Chris travels alone with his camera to some of the most extreme environments on the planet to find out how and why people live in the grip of nature at her most ferocious and threatening.
In the frozen north of Norway he joins the Sami people (the oldest living culture in Europe) for the great reindeer migration across the Arctic; in Mali he travels with the Tuareg nomads and meets communities in Kenya and Somalia who live with severe drought day in, day out; he spends time with the Mauritanian and Senegalese fishermen who work the rich but dangerous fishing grounds off the west coast of Africa.
