The Martlets seemed comfortable against the College seam attack and so the spinners were brought into the attack. The left arm spin of Billy Meboroh-Collinson was the turning point of the innings as he took 3 for 48 and this spell was followed up by Harry Klus who kept the pressure on and took 4 for 20. The college won by 45 runs.
1st XI girls cricket side beat Sussex under 17s
The girls 1st XI also started their cricket season with a victory over Sussex under 17s on the Home Ground on saturday. Disciplined bowling from Izi Noakes and Emma Adams picking up two wickets each. The leg spin of Izzy Collis accounted for 3 Sussex wickets and the opposition posted 175 for 9 off their 40 overs. In response the college showed confidence with the bat. Sofie Cawley anchored the innings with 33, and despite losing a few quick wickets, Izzy Collis made a rapid 60 to put the side in a winning position, ably supported with Rebecca Silk 33 not out. The college reached the target with 9 balls to spare.
1st XV at National 10s, Sedbergh
The 1st Ten made their way up to Cumbria for the National Tens with high hopes after a very good Sevens season. They won a tight game against QEGs Wakefield in the opening game with some good intensive Rugby. The next game was comfortable against KES Bath which meant they qualified for the last 8 for the 3rd year in a row.
This put them in a group with Millfield, Sedbergh and Filton for the final day. This was a great group to be in and the boys were relishing the opportunity to play against three of the most prestigious rugby schools in the country. The first game was an excellent display of Rugby beating the hosts Sedbergh on their main pitch 19 - 7. Next was the favourites Filton in the now very wet and muddy pitches. It was all even at half time but unfortunately Filton took their chance near the end of the match to win 12 -5. This meant that Brighton needed to beat Millfield convincingly and hope for an upset in the other group game. Brighton beat a tired Millfield by 6 trys but unfortunately Filton won their game against Sedbergh. Filton went on to win the title with ease against Barnard Castle in the final.
Again Brighton College were one of the ‘stand out' teams in a National competition. This finished off a great season and all the Leavers should be proud of their contribution to the College Rugby Club.
