The new Centre for Sports and Science was put out to tender in an architecture competition that saw international architects compete for this ambitious and exciting project. OMA have been appointed, the designs have undergone public consultation and have had planning advice from English Heritage, and the Brighton Conservation & Planning Officer before planning application. Both the Regency Society and Brighton Society fully support the planning application, which is now with Brighton & Hove Council.

OMA is renowned for fierce energy and intelligence, they even carry out their own architectural criticism, aspiring to be a university as well as a design practice: they once produced a publication revisiting some of their buildings after they had been in use for a while (something professional critics rarely do) and pointing out what did and did not work. It was their professionalism combined with a thought-provoking and meticulously planned out design that won the day at Brighton. This addition will match the original architectural vision for the College, steering it firmly towards a modern contemporary environment, with pupils benefiting from the best that the world can offer in design and technology in this inspiring edifice. Academic and sporting disciplines have been deliberately inter-twined, each lending vibrancy and excitement to the other.

Construction is scheduled to commence summer 2017, with completion Michaelmas 2019.
