After Eaton Hall Officer Cadet School he was commissioned to the Corps of Royal Military Police, spending most of his national service in Cyprus during the Greek EOKA campaign. His claim to fame there was disarming some terrorists and capturing the EOKA flag. Following national service he continued in the RMP  as a  Territorial, reaching the rank of Major and earning the Territorial Decoration. Despite his illness he represented the Cyprus contingent at the Cenotaph at the Remembrance service in 2009.

Geoff joined ESSO in 1958 retiring in 1989 after a successful career to become, for many years, an annuitant visitor. His pensioner population thought the world of him as, on their behalf, he practised the community ethic of the College throughout everything he undertook.
