Kathleen's and my life as professional coaches more evolved than was planned. We are both runners. We began coaching as an extension of our enjoyment of running and as runners gravitated toward us after we achieved a certain level of success competing in the sport. Then with the widespread use of the Internet in the nineties, all of a sudden, just as with many other industry applications for the web, we were suddenly exposed to a worldwide market for on line coaching. We were one of the first companies to do this, originally with CoachGP.com and more recently with a more sophisticated website known as RunningBuzz.com.
Having lived on the West coast in California from 1988-2001 we moved as a family to the Jersey Shore just below New York and we enjoy it very much. Kathleen is from NJ, it is a better family life here, better schools, less crime, a great life by the ocean (not that Santa Cruz, Ca, was not) but it is older, more traditional and ironically more like England. Our life and lifestyle is all to do with running, triathlon and the fitness world. I never imagined writing a book but am delighted to have done so. It is doing quite well Nationally, in particular via Amazon.com. I travel to marathons nationwide on many weekends to speak on my subject of running mechanics to help those tackling the marathon distance for the first time. It is a busy life as we work with athletes from novice to Olympian and being charged with the responsibility of guiding their careers carries with it a certain level of stress but then again, so do all jobs right?. We love family life and having young children of course, presents its own thrills, challenges and concerns.
We have not visited home (England) since 1999 but hope to get back there in the next two years. I did have lunch in California a couple of years ago with Adrian Underwood who was in San Jose to visit his In-laws but have lost contact since. I would love to have more contact with OB's and always enjoy reading the Pelican and OB news.
