Dr. Mohamud A. Verjee, BSc(Hons), MBChB, MBA, DRCOG, CCFP (LM), FCFP, is a practicing family physician. He is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine, a former Assistant Dean for Medical Student Affairs, and a Co-Director of the Primary Care Clerkship at Weill Cornell Medicine – Qatar (WCM-Q).
Born and bred in Brighton, after leaving Brighton College, Mohamud went on to study Biochemistry and later Medicine at the University of Dundee. He arrived at Qatar with his family in 2007.
Mohamud looks forward to hearing from any OBs in the region, including those from Brighton, Al-Ain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
He studied biochemistry before medicine at the University of Dundee, Scotland. Completing his GP vocational training in the Thames Valley Program, he began teaching medical students at Oxford University, England in 1990. After spending sixteen years in the NHS, he migrated to Canada in 1994, where he spent time in rural practice in Newfoundland and Labrador before moving to Alberta, Canada. Joining the University of Calgary, he established a career in academic medicine and was appointed the Family Medicine Clerkship Director. He became the inaugural Director of the Primary Care Clerkship at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, in Doha, Qatar, the international campus of Cornell University's medical school, in 2007. Simultaneously, he took on the role of the Clinical Skills Director. Mohamud completed his MBA (Leadership & Sustainability), at Robert Kennedy College, Zurich, under the auspices of the University of Cumbria in 2016.
Now an alumnus of the Harvard Macy Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, he has also presented at TEDx. Other appointments include being an Adjunct Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and a Senior Research Fellow in Psychiatry at Clare College, Cambridge, England. His clinical interests include professionalism in health care, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), communication skills, palliative care, and writing narrative medicine about clinical experiences.
He is married to Parin and they have two grown up sons. A keen musician, he is learning to play the cello, discovered the joys of painting late in life, writes poetry, and is proud of having played squash until his 70's.
