The development will provide pupils and teachers with:
A central hub for Maths, History, Economics and Politics
20 new classrooms, each 25% larger than any other in the school
A large experimental teaching facility with two recording spaces and adjoining control room, built specifically for teaching public speaking and presentation skills to all of our pupils
A purpose-built centre for EAL (English as an Additional Language).
Architecture
The Teaching Block has been designed by Hopkins, the architects of the Olympic Velodrome, the Mound Stand at Lord's Cricket Ground and Glyndebourne Opera House in Sussex. As one of the world's leading architectural firms, Hopkins is renowned for its innovation and creativity, as well as its commitment to environmental sustainability. Set across four floors, Brighton's exciting new building will sit alongside the award-winning Skidelsky Building on the west side of the school, perfectly complementing the surrounding blend of historic and contemporary architecture.
Additional classrooms will allow us to continue to enhance the range of opportunities available to pupils. Classes will be held in modern, spacious rooms, where creative teaching and learning will thrive. Mathematics, History, Economics and Politics will no longer be taught in outmoded classrooms spread across the school. Instead, these key subjects will be accommodated centrally: beacons of innovation and excellence.
