In the second round we travelled to Bradfield for the first time. The OBs batted first and Gates struck a magnificent 100. He was finely supported by Appleton and their opening stand yielded 170 runs. This enabled the middle order to go berserk and we rocketed to 320 for 4.
Off then to Harrow for the quarter finals for the third year in succession. Could we reach the semis for the first time since the mid 70s? Unfortunately, we were completely out-played by Harrow, who went on to the final.
Cricket week was a great success this year with several leavers from recent years making appearances.Young blades such as Grammer, Wood, Burton, Waller, Spencer, Bidwell & Woodbridge carry the flag and all produced exciting performances during the season. Narrow defeats against the Martlets, St. James & Lancing were all exciting games and the victory against Malvern was the first for years.
My thanks go to Peter Withers for all his help and also to Sam Chettleburgh for captaining the side. Thanks also to Fred and his team on the ground staff and James and the catering team. Finally, congratulations to Matthew Prior on winning the County Championship with Sussex.
