The evening was a memorable affair with many of the Yeoh family flying in from Malaysia to celebrate the official opening of the building by Puan Sri Kai Yong Yeoh, who spent her career as a teacher of mathematics.

Dato’ Mark, who now heads up the hospitality arm of his father’s Malaysian infrastructure conglomerate YTL, attended Brighton College to study for his A levels in 1983/4. He went on to study Law at King’s College London before completing his Bar exams at Gray‘s Inn.

Set across four storeys, the new development will be a centre for mathematics, economics, history and politics. The top floor of the Kai Yong Yeoh building is entirely devoted to experimental teaching and features chairs which rock (to help pupils concentrate) as well as on wheels to assist flexible, dynamic group teaching. Advanced sound recording equipment has been installed which will be integral for analysis in our timetables lessons in Public Speaking and Presentation Skills.

We are extremely grateful to Dato’ Mark Yeoh for his generous contribution to the cost of building his former school’s newest hub, the Kai Yong Yeoh Building.

Dato’ Mark Yeoh said “I have such fond memories of my time at Brighton College and am so pleased that it is today still a top ranked independent school in the country. The facilities in the new building will undoubtedly help students acquire skills that will see them through their careers. My mother is a great educator who devoted much of her life to teaching and I am delighted that the College has honoured her by naming the new building after her”
