When you were at Brighton College, what did you want to be when you ‘grew-up’?
Although I was always passionate about my sporting activities, I probably envisaged myself as a NASA scientist or a pilot!
Tell us about yourself now you've grown up.
The “man at (almost) 60” is not too far from the boy I was at six! I am always seeking new adventures, wanting to push boundaries for self-discovery, and just keeping busy as much as I can, especially with my two children. Maybe I haven’t grown up at all!
What about your life now would most surprise your Brighton College teachers?
I’ve probably overachieved - both academically and otherwise! I’m about to complete my second Masters, this one in Analytics/Data Science (for using AI in Airline marketing). I’ve certainly had some challenges and detours along the way, but my persistence has always helped me along my journey.
What are your favourite memories of your time at school?
It was always the sport. I couldn’t get enough of it. I enjoyed the variety of sports that were available to us. But I also had a short stint “coaching” the Chichester Junior hockey team. And that probably sowed the seeds of something crucial I realised a few years later.
What advice would you give to your school-age self?
Never. Give. Up.
What do you do as a career?
I am a technology marketer of 30+ years, across several international regions. I’ve worked across a range of industries including Aviation, Technology, and Government. I also managed my own digital consulting business for ten years based out of Singapore and Malaysia. Since 1998, I’ve been mostly in Australia and I’m currently leading AU/NZ Digital Marketing ops for a global IT solutions company.
What are you most proud of?
Being a supportive father to my daughter and son. Making my best decision ever - to move to Australia! And that I obtained my FIFA Coaching C Licence in 2007, which included a recent experience with the Liverpool FC coach’s academy. I have been coaching youth football teams semi-professionally since 2007. I still play competitive ‘seniors’ football. Along the way, I’ve also coached a bit of tennis, and netball, and ran three marathons over 30 years. (No one at BC would have ever predicted all that!)
What are the three objects you would take with you to a desert island?
Any three items that would enable me to return to civilisation asap!
How would you like to be remembered?
No idea, and I couldn’t care less. ?
