Our Head of Sixth Form, Olivia Upchurch, welcomed the OBs and pupils in the Great Hall before Ayesha Holderness (Williams, 2017) currently studying medicine at Cambridge and Oli Harris (Hampden, 2017), reading Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Cambridge, shared their insights into how to prepare for the interview and admissions tests, why a gap year could be a good idea and the teaching styles on their particular courses.
The pupils and OBs then divided up into the various subject areas represented, giving our current Upper Sixth a chance to really drill the OBs on the realities of life at Oxford and Cambridge, as well as find out how they made it through Michaelmas in one piece! The Upper Sixth found the evening incredibly useful and even managed to get a maths lesson out of the current maths students, Sulaiman and Zakhar.
We finished up with drinks in the Head Master’s Dining Room, where the OBs could catch up with one another properly, and some headed off on a tour to see our newest campus developments (including the outside of the School of Science and Sport – “it’s huge!”).
Thank you to all the OBs for coming along to help with such an invaluable evening for our current pupils. Enjoy the coming academic year!
