Earlier this year, The Sunday Times awarded Brighton College the title of England's School of the Year after the college became the first independent school ever to improve its results every single year for five years.
We are absolutely delighted that this year's leavers have done it again!
Incredibly, 100 boys and girls gained AAA or better in their A-levels and 96.3% of grades were at A*, A or B - the grades demanded by top universities.
At the top end, 20 pupils gained at least three grades at A* - a phenomenal achievement.
Among those celebrating their 162 A* grades at the college today were:
- Max Bertrand, with 5 A* grades, who is off to study Natural Sciences at Cambridge
- Ian Headley, with 5 A* grades, who has a place at Oxford to read History
- Corinne Hull who comfortably met her offer to read Human Sciences at UCL with 4 A* grades but is now focusing on Oxbridge
- Eswar Kalidasan who is heading to Oxford to read PPE after achieving 4 A* and 1 A grade
- Teddy Truneh who is off to be a medic at Cambridge after securing 4 A* grades
- Melita Cameron-Wood who is heading for Oxford to read Modern Languages, with 3 A* and 1 A grade
- Kitty Chau, with 3 A* and 2 A grades, who confirmed her place at Imperial to read Civil Engineering, one of the many girls going on to study science and engineering at university
- Esteira Hiwaizi, with 3 A* and 1 A grade, who will be studying Classics at Cambridge
- Frank Jarman, with 3 A* grades and 1 A grade, who will relish studying English Language and Literature at Oxford
- Alexander Kolliari-Turner, with 3 A* and 1 A grade, who heads off to the Head Master's old Oxford college to study Biological Sciences
- Eve Lian, with 3 A* grades and 2 A grades, who secured her place to read Engineering at Cambridge
- Sin Sin Ngai, with 3 A* grades and 2 A grades, who has a place to study Physics and Philosophy at Oxford
- Philip Papasavvas, with 3 A* grades and 1 A grade, who heads off to Durham to read Natural Sciences
- Michael Saner, with 3 A* grades, who has a place at Edinburgh to read English
- Leora Taratula-Lyons, with 3 A* and 1 A grade, who heads off to Cambridge to read English
- Alistair Thomas, with 3 A* grades and 1 A grade, who has a place at Bristol to study Civil Engineering
There are many others too celebrating their own personal triumphs and we are all as delighted by those getting B grades in subjects they found really difficult as by those securing 5 A*s.
The Head Master, Richard Cairns expressed his delight:
"This really has been a very special year group. They have given so much of themselves to entertain us on the stage, in the concert hall, on the sports field and around the college. That they have found time to do some work on the way and achieve such stellar results is an obvious bonus. I am frankly in awe of them."
