At the OB Pioneers London Luncheon this year, our host Gavin Henderson CBE (Le. 1960-65) spoke fondly of Peter Gough (Common Room, 1946-66), Housemaster of School House and Second Master at the College, remembered well for his remarkable productions of school plays- Moliere especially. We all have a teacher that we remember, who inspired and enthused us to continue with our passions. Gavin is a great supporter of the College and is now the Principal at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. We also have a number of Old Brightonians in the film, theatre and television industries, including Vera Filatova (Wi. 1995-98), Tony Hawks (Al. 1976-78), Tamzin Merchant (Fe. 2000-05), Izzy Meikle-Small, Sir Michael Horden (Ch. 1925-30), McDonald Hobley (S. 1931-36), George Sanders (Du. 1922-24) and Menhaj Huda (Ch. 1980-85).
Today we are proud to still have fantastic drama, dance and art departments continuing to inspire and educate our boys and girls. The drama, dance, music and art departments joined forces this term to put on a fabulous rendition of Billy Elliot, showcasing the plethora of talent here at the College. Every year our pupils showcase their year’s dance, drama and music achievements and shows, delighting parents at the city’s Theatre Royal. We have put together a video from this year’s event, take a look – we reckon it will bring back some fond memories for many of you who trod the boards back in your Brighton College days!
If you have any photographs or memories you would like to share with us from your school days, please join our Drama Group on Brighton College Connect here.
