On leaving the College he studied law and was admitted a solicitor and became a Partner in the City of London solicitors, Ince, Roscoe, Wilson & Glover in 1943. The previous year he had successfully competed in the Monte Carlo Rally starting from John O’ Groats. His team won the Concors d’Elegance.
He married Elizabeth Stella Nash in 1937 and had two sons and a daughter. In April 1939 he enlisted in 86 H.A.A. Regt. (H.A.C.) and was called up in September. After service in France he attended the Staff College, Camberley (1942) and then the Planning Division, War Office, as a Major and later acting Lt. Col. (1942/45). He was demobbed in 1946 and went, with his family, to South Africa as Chairman and Managing Director of Mann George Group returning to England in 1955. From 1955 to 1969 he was Executive Director of The Forestal Land Timber & Railways Co. Ltd.
Among his other activities he was a Member of the Committee of the London Chamber of Commerce (1960-71) and a General Commissioner of Income Tax as well as being a member of the Advisory Board for East Sussex.
He was a Freeman of the City of London, a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers & Coach Harness Makers, and the oldest member of the RAC, which he joined in 1933.
