On Wednesday 11 March twenty or so OBs and other guests met for the annual Vice Presidents? Lunch at the Carlton Club. This was a new venue for the occasion and came courtesy of Andrew Symonds, to whom we are all grateful.
After pre-prandials downstairs, we adjourned to a wonderful, small function room, where we enjoyed a fine lunch under the beady gaze of that former Tory grandee, Benjamin Disraeli, and other Conservative luminaries. After grace said by our official guest,
Simon Smith, Senior Master at the College, Andrew gave a brief and illuminating history of the Club. At the end of lunch Simon gave an update on the many recent and exciting developments at the College and answered questions with his customary good grace and charm. Although not all changes met with approval, there was nevertheless an understanding that the College was facing the present day challenges with vigour and imagination.
I am grateful to our administrator, Fiona Aiken, for overseeing the arrangements, and we will try to confirm the date and venue of next year?s lunch as soon as possible.
